Ranked currently as the third of Broadway’s longest-running musicals of all time, Disney’s The Lion King has continued to amaze audiences worldwide with several shows that have reached not just numerous locations in the United States, but also Canada, South America, and Europe among others. On September, it adds one other to its toured cities as The Lion King musical will be performing in Keller Auditorium at Portland on Sunday 28th September 2025!

Disney's The Lion King, since its inception and move to the live stage in 1997, has allowed distinct methods in theater to shine so much more. With a classic narrative brought to life on stage with the special approach of life-sized animal puppets and an African-inspired musical score and choreography, the Broadway show was referred to as an amazing shock to both supporters of the previous movie as well as even brand new audiences.

Building up on a show with a strong plot, the historic play is also certainly one of the most awarded plays in every award season the musical was part of. In 1998 alone after its first performance, the musical was nominated for over 20 awards, garnering 6 Tonys at that awards season including Best Musical, Best Scenic Design (by Richard Hudson), Best Choreography (by Garth Fagan), Best Lighting Design (by Donald Holder), Best Direction of a Musical and Best Costume Design (by Julie Taymor). The award given for Best Direction of a Musical is considered historical, as Julie Taymor is the first female director to ever be presented with the award.

Still standing tall, The Lion King continued to extend and build on its success with more than over 70 major arts awards and nominations conferred. In the musical's several tours and shows all over the world, it has been presented awards by numerous organizations including but not limited to the NY Drama Critics Circle, The Grammys, the Laurence Olivier Awards, the Molière Awards, and the Helpmann Awards.

Witness life in the African savanna as the musical takes you back to The Pride Lands and presents to you the profound tale of Simba and the lion cub's life. Disney's The Lion King will only be showing in Keller Auditorium for a limited season; seats for this Sunday 28th September 2025 showing can now be purchased by clicking on the links on top of this page.
