Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the brainchild of Jack Thorne and showing in Portland this summer as part of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child North American Tour. He authored the original play with some direction from the original series' author J.K. Rowling and beloved theater director John Tiffany. The original Jack Thorne script initially only included a frugal two acts. But the creators expanded it to four for an engaging theatrical performance that crowds would remember forever.
This Harry Potter play adaptation begins when Albus Potter meets Scorpios Malfoy on their way to Hogwarts. While Albus cannot match his father's valorous renown, Scorpios blunders his own unjustified public image as a death eater's offspring or the circulating rumors of being Voldemort's child. The touring production features John Skelley returning to the role of Harry Potter, Trish Lindstrom as Ginny Potter and Emmett Smith as Albus Potter.
Each character encounters relatable coming-of-age challenges like creating an image that diverges from family histories and ending generational curses. They hope to instigate a better future for themselves and their cohorts. Their modus operandi involves manipulating a time turner so that they can travel to the past and keep Cedric Diggory - one of Voldemort's targets - alive.
Can changing the past correct the damages of the present? Or will it make things worse for the imprudent pair? The Harry Potter play guarantees to answer these questions during its nearly three-hour runtime. The fan can grab refreshments and hydrate during a brief intermission at the performance's half-way point.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child obtained pop-culture impact with performances in Melbourne, Australia, Hamburg, Germany and Tokyo, Japan. It has delighted fans far and wide since its 2016 premier at the Palace theater in London, England. Each production flawlessly utilizes original scores from art-pop icon Imogen Heap. The production has won 6 Tony Awards including Best Play.
