In the winter of 1934, the American Financial Crisis has not yet been remedied and its effects are most pronounced in a run down board house in Duluth, Minnesota. Nick Laine fights to keep the property from being foreclosed by the bank while his wife Elizabeth continues to battles with dementia but every once in a while shows signs of mental alertness.
