Synopsis
The Notebook is based on the ever-lasting love story between Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton. Set in 1940s South Carolina Noah is a mill worker, while Allie is a wealthy woman from an upper class family. While they both fall desperately in love, Allie’s parents don’t approve. Allie later returns to Charleston, studies at college, and then trains as a nurse, while Noah enlists in the Battle of the Bulge.
Their love spans years and Noah builds Allie her dream house. Even though Allie is engaged to another man, the couple eventually get back together. However, Alzheimer’s disease presents a new challenge, testing their commitment until the very end.

Creative Team
The Notebook musical boasts an adapted book by the accomplished playwright BEKAH BRUNSTETTER. Her credits include the three-time Emmy award-winning “This Is Us” and the play “The Cake.” Her work explores family dynamics, identity, and social issues.
The music and lyrics are by the talented INGRID MICHAELSON. If you didn’t already know, she is a celebrated indie singer and songwriter known and loved around the world for her emotionally-charged pop music.

History and Awards
Notebook – The Musical is adapted from Nicholas Sparks’s bestselling 1996 novel and the iconic 2004 movie. The musical opened its curtains at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in September 2022 to rave reviews. Fast forward to spring 2024 and The Notebook opened at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York. The cast included Maryann Plunkett and Dorian Harewood as the older Allie and Noah, with Joy Woods, Ryan Vasquez, Jordan Tyson, and John Cardoza depicting their younger selves. The Broadway production ran for a total of eight months, closing on 15th December 2024. The North American tour launched in September 2025, kickstarting in Cleveland.
The Notebook — The Musical has received a number of nominations. The show snagged three Tony Award nominations for Best Book of a Musical, Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Dorian Harewood), and Best Leading Actress in a Musical (Maryann Plunkett). The Notebook was also nominated at the Drama League Awards for Outstanding Production of a Musical, as well as Distinguished Performance nods for Harewood and Plunkett. Other nominations included Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical for both leads, as well as an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Performer (Maryann Plunkett). What’s more, Entertainment Weekly hailed the show as one of the 10 Best Broadway Shows of 2024.
