A legendary tale infused with disco and motown magic: we’re all over it! Composer Charlie Smalls and playwright William F. Brown’s Afro-American adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s children’s novel ‘The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz’ is a magical, inclusive showstopper that connects to the original disco and motown sounds of the 1970s. THE WIZ made its stage debut in 1974 in Baltimore, after which it moved to the Majestic Theatre on Broadway where it ran for four years of sold-out performances. THE WIZ really knocked Broadway off its axis and received no less than seven Tony Awards, five Drama Desk Awards, and two Theatre World Awards.
