The Lion King at Keller Auditorium

The musical Lion King shares the fate of the little lion cub Simba, who before his time is forced to accept his role of leading as the leader of the Pride Lands due to unjust killing of his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a well-loved King by the people of the Pride Lands, gets stabbed in the back by from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which leads to his death. This forces the young prince into to escape for years, and this is where the Prince's long journey and his sudden return to The Pride Lands and his rightful place as King.

Based off the late 1994 motion picture of the same name released by Disney, The Lion King musical was skillfully transformed to the Broadway medium by director Julie Taymor and the awesome cast and production crew. Its premiere in the 90s was a fresh addition to theater, being received positively by critics. Greg Evans of Variety summarizes the musical with very positive words in his posting, sharing that “Julie Taymor's staging of Disney's The Lion King is a marvel, a successful adaptation unrivaled in its cultural and historical foundation. Exceeding expectations as a film follow-up, the Broadway adaptation improves upon nearly every aspect of the classic 90s cartoon film, from design elements and narrative to Lebo M's writing and the freshly Africanized original numbers of Elton John and Tim Rice."

Disney's The Lion King was also received with the unrivaled commendations from audiences. One in reference writes about how The Lion King can aptly be considered “The musical that beats them all”, expressing how he perceived that “the show was fantastic. It was passionately put together and the score makes you feel all kinds of emotion. The crafted 3D puppets really brought the roles to life.” Most audiences who have watched the shows over the past 20 years proclaim that despite being a second retelling of a motion picture, the iconic musical succeeded in surpassing expectations.

This coming September’s production of The Lion King will be hosted in Keller Auditorium at Oregon on Thursday 18th September 2025. Keller Auditorium, being similarly alive and creative as the musical with its appealingly devised stage setup and seating arrangement is pointed to by theatergoers as the only choice to host The Lion King.
