Some Like It Hot at Keller Auditorium

Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was everywhere, "Some Like It Hot" draws similarities to another famous Broadway musical, Chicago. Jazz elements fill the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians working to survive on speakeasy performances. Their lives face an unexpected wrench when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled venue and need to disguise themselves as female musicians to protect their identities from the mob. 

Joe reinvents himself as Josephine, while Jerry transforms into Daphne and the two join an women-only swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a pivotal part of their story as the two men attempt to earn her affection without blowing their cover. The journey each character tests their strengths and teaches them valuable lessons about themselves. 

Did you know that "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway adaptation of the 1959 film of the same name, which starred the legendary Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The film itself was based on the 1953 French film Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most groundbreaking movies in American cinema. The movie earned three Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award and was among the first class of 25 movies chosen by the US National Film Registry to preserve for future generations.

The movies impressive success led it to become the basis for the 1972 Broadway show "Sugar", and multiple theatre productions in the 1990s. Then on to the 2022 Broadway adaptation. Audiences can't get enough of the show and rush to secure tickets for showings at Keller Auditorium and other theaters. "Some Like It Hot" features showtunes by Marc Shaiman and Marc Wittman, the hitmakers behind numerous hit musicals like "Hairspray" and "Catch Me If You Can." 

The musical includes dazzling dance numbers and truely lovable songs like "I'm California Bound," "Baby, Let's Get Good," and "Zee Bap." The original Broadway cast earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for their recording of the show's soundtrack.
