Les Miserables at Keller Auditorium

Ever since the musical's inception in the late 1900s, Les Misérables, or Les Mis, has transformed from an only-local theater classic produced in Paris, France to today's longest-running musical in the world. Over the last four decades that the musical has been running, Les Misérables has been performed in 53 countries, in 22 different languages, and has been met with applause and standing ovations in each locale visited.

In April, the musical’s next season brings it to a new location in Portland, where the celebrated musical will be held in Keller Auditorium on Wednesday 1st April 2026. Keller Auditorium was masterfully built and prepared as the favorite entertainment venue of Portland, containing a well-crafted stage and seating setup that is big enough to have a musical of this standard, in addition to appropriate facilities that are contained inside the venue.

Les Misérables revolves around the story of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict desperately wanting to start anew after his escape from the law. His whole tale, and the relationships he builds along the way, are performed sung-through entirely from the opening number to the end of the musical. The West End musical being sung from start to finish is a clever manner of execution that this play has over other known theater productions, and is the chief reason why every moment and act doesn’t miss a beat in in every phrase or lyric performed.

The musical is creatively executed and as a result of this method, Les Misérables is also overflowing with impressive song numbers. Interestingly, despite the large number of tunes that can be heard in the show, every role in the stage adaptation is able to be highlighted, with each discrete performance showing the vocal range of each actor. No one who has watched a showing of Les Mis can stop thinking about Fantine’s “I Dreamed A Dream”, which brings with the song a powerful longing and has been performed countlessly by acclaimed icons in contemporary television. “Bring Him Home” also emotionally closes out the conflict in our beloved characters, unveiling the selfless heart of the main character in only one completely incredible song.
