On Friday, November 21st, Portland Opera brings this beloved classic to the Keller auditorium, offering audiences a chance to step into a paris attic filled with laughter, love and inevitable heartbreak.
The Opera begins in the cramped quarters of four struggling friends, artists who dont have much money but they live richly in camaraderie and creativity. Among them is Rodolfo, a poet whose life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Mimi, a shy seamstress who knocks on his door in search of candle flame. From that simple moment sparks one of operas most enduring romances.
What makes La Boheme unforgettable is not just the story, it is also Puccinis score. His music swells with joy in moments of celebration, trembles with vunerability in moments of love and aches with dispair when fate turns cruel.
